Just as eyeliner can be used to help correct certain eye features, so can eye shadow. As a general make up rule, use darker shades to de-emphasize an area. Use lighter shades to bring out an area. Unless your are correcting certain eye features, you should use darker eye shadow closer to the lid and get lighter in shade as you approach the brow bone.

Never coordinate your eye shadow to go with your clothing. Always select eye shadow to match your eyes and hair color.
