Lip Enhancement Surgery Procedures
Lip enhancement is for both males and females. Its purpose is to provide fuller or more defined lips. If you have really thin lips, your goal may be to have more normal appearing lips. For others, your goal may be very thick and sexy lips. Some people desire to enhance their lips such that they have a defined edge to the lip or lips that appear less aged. Whatever you goal may be, if you want to enhance your lips, there are a few things you should know about some of the procedures used to enhance the lips. Sometimes fat is taken from your body through mini-liposuction. It is then re-injected into your lips on a regular basis. In some cases large quantity of fat may be injected into the lips at one setting. Besides implanting the fat cells in the lips, new collagen and fibroblasts are stimulated. Within a year only 40% of this stimulation will become permanent. Alloderm is donor tissue that has had all the viable cells removed. By using a local anesthesia, it can be implanted into the lips to create more volume and add definition. Sometimes, Softform is used in combination with the Alloderm to make the enhancement to your lips last longer. However, after several years, some of the product will be absorbed. Softform is an updated version of Gortex. Using a local anesthesia, a hollow tube of Gortex is inserted into the lips. This procedure enhances the vermilion border, but does not provide large lip volume correction. This enhancement to the lips is generally permanent as long as the implant remains in place. Other procedures for enhancing the lips include Dermalogen, Restylene, Isolagen and Artecolle. At this writing some are not currently FDA approved. All of the procedures used to enhance the lips are done using a local anesthesia or a local anesthesia plus intravenous sedation. Your doctor will discuss which procedure is best for you in your goal to enhance your lips.
